The Veterans Garden of Augusta is a grassroots, community-based, not-for-profit project created by and for veterans. With the support of nonprofit partners and our local community, every contribution goes directly into building a garden where veterans can grow food, connect with one another, and find healing.
The Veterans Garden of Augusta is a grassroots, community-driven initiative based in Staunton, Virginia, serving veterans throughout Augusta County. The project was born from conversations with local veterans who shared a common challenge that many lack the space, resources, or support to garden or learn related skills, even though time outdoors and growing food can be deeply therapeutic.
Our mission is to create a dedicated garden and gathering space where veterans can grow their own food, build community, and reconnect through hands-on learning. The garden will include individual plots, raised beds for those with mobility challenges, and a communal growing area that encourage collaboration and fellowship. In addition to gardening, veterans will have opportunities to learn new skills such as mushroom cultivation, healthy cooking and beekeeping. Surplus produce from the garden will be donated to elderly veterans, local food banks, and families in need, extending the project’s impact beyond the garden itself.
This effort is currently volunteer-led and in the early stages of development. We have secured land and are now seeking partners, materials, and community support to build infrastructure, improve the soil, and establish a sustainable foundation for long-term growth.
The Veterans Garden of Augusta won’t just grow vegetables, we will learn some, grow some, give some.

The Veterans Garden of Augusta is still in the planning stage, but these partnerships are helping to make it possible. Thank you for sharing your support, advice, and encouragement as we work to create a garden where veterans will be able to grow, connect, and heal.
